Legendary rock icon Ozzy Osbourne has died, just weeks after performing what was billed as his final farewell show. He was 76.
Osbourne, best known as the frontman of the pioneering heavy metal band Black Sabbath, passed away peacefully surrounded by family, according to a statement released by his wife, Sharon Osbourne. The cause of death has not yet been publicly disclosed.
His death comes as a shock to fans around the world, especially after his emotional performance at the “OzzFest: The End” concert in Birmingham last month — a farewell show that marked the culmination of a five-decade-long career that helped define the sound and spirit of heavy metal.
“Today, the world lost a musical legend, a true original, and the Prince of Darkness,” the statement read. “Ozzy was more than a rock star — he was a husband, a father, a grandfather, and an inspiration to millions.”
Born John Michael Osbourne in Birmingham, England, in 1949, he rose to fame in the early 1970s as the lead vocalist of Black Sabbath. With dark lyrics and heavy guitar riffs, the band laid the foundation for a genre that would inspire generations of artists. After parting ways with Sabbath in 1979, Osbourne launched a wildly successful solo career, releasing iconic albums such as Blizzard of Ozz and Diary of a Madman.
Known for his onstage antics, raw vocals, and unmistakable charisma, Osbourne also found renewed fame in the early 2000s with the hit MTV reality show The Osbournes, which offered fans a candid, often chaotic look inside his family life.
Over the years, Osbourne battled numerous health issues, including Parkinson’s disease and complications from past injuries, but remained defiant and determined to keep performing. His final concert was seen as a triumph — a heartfelt goodbye to the fans who had stood by him for decades.
Tributes have poured in from across the music industry, with artists and fans alike celebrating his immense contributions to music and culture.
Ozzy Osbourne is survived by his wife Sharon, their children Aimee, Kelly, and Jack, and several grandchildren. Funeral arrangements will be announced in the coming days.
He leaves behind a legacy as one of rock’s most enduring and influential figures — a true icon who changed the face of music forever.
