Netflix Set to Release Documentary on Rock Band Jackyl

Netflix is tuning into hard rock history with an explosive new documentary chronicling the rise, rebellion, and resilience of Southern rock band Jackyl.

Netflix has officially announced the upcoming release of a documentary focused on the music and legacy of Jackyl, the Georgia-born hard rock band that exploded onto the scene in the early 1990s. Known for their raw energy, chainsaw solos, and blue-collar attitude, Jackyl carved out a cult following with hits like “The Lumberjack” and “Down on Me.”

The yet-to-be-titled documentary promises a deep dive into the band’s early days, turbulent career, and enduring status in rock circles. Featuring never-before-seen archival footage, intimate interviews with band members—most notably lead singer Jesse James Dupree—and commentary from industry insiders, the film explores Jackyl’s unique place in American rock history.

Set against the backdrop of the grunge-dominated ’90s, the band’s story reflects the struggle of staying relevant while refusing to conform. Their debut album went platinum, but it was their unapologetic Southern flair and high-octane live shows, including Dupree’s use of a chainsaw as a musical instrument, that cemented their reputation as rock rebels.

Netflix, continuing its investment in music-centered programming, aims to give longtime fans and new audiences alike a gritty, no-holds-barred look at a band that has never followed the rules. The documentary is being produced by the streaming giant’s original content division in collaboration with several music documentary veterans.

An official release date has not yet been confirmed, but the film is expected to premiere later this year, with the tagline: “Jackyl: Loud, Proud, and Unchained.”

Coming soon to Netflix.
