FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — Veteran forward Brad Marchand expressed enthusiasm about joining the Florida Panthers following his trade from the Boston Bruins. At his introductory press conference Monday, Marchand acknowledged the emotional transition but highlighted his excitement about contributing to the Panthers’ success.
“It’s sad to leave a place I look at as home,” Marchand said. “I have a lot of great memories in Boston, a lot of incredible years there. But it is extremely exciting to be part of such an incredible group here.”
The Panthers acquired Marchand just before the NHL Trade Deadline, sending a conditional second-round pick in the 2027 NHL Draft to Boston. The 36-year-old forward has been sidelined with an upper-body injury sustained on March 1 but is expected to return to action in the coming weeks.
Marchand’s arrival adds experience and depth to the reigning Stanley Cup champions, who currently hold the second-highest points in the Eastern Conference. Known for his competitive nature and postseason prowess, Marchand aims to contribute significantly to Florida’s quest for back-to-back championships.
Panthers defenseman Nate Schmidt, reflecting on past playoff battles against Marchand, expressed excitement about having him as a teammate. “Marchand playing with these guys? Absolute chaos,” Schmidt said.
Marchand’s former Bruins teammate, A.J. Greer, now with the Panthers, also praised the acquisition. “Everyone is excited—he is an amazing person, and a great player who brings out the best in everyone every day,” Greer noted.
While Marchand won’t be available for the Panthers’ upcoming game against the Bruins in Boston, he is expected to travel with the team and support his new teammates from the sidelines.
As Marchand embarks on this new chapter with the Panthers, he brings a wealth of experience and a championship mindset, qualities that could prove invaluable as Florida aims to defend its Stanley Cup title.
