Giacomo Agostini: “Marc Marquez Is Hungrier Than Bagnaia, and That Could Make the Difference!”
MotoGP legend Giacomo Agostini has weighed in on one of the hottest debates of the season: Who has the upper hand in 2025—Marc Marquez or Francesco Bagnaia? The 15-time world champion believes Marquez’s relentless hunger for success might give him the edge over reigning champion Bagnaia.
Marquez vs. Bagnaia: A Battle of Mentality?
As the 2025 MotoGP season kicks into high gear, all eyes are on the rivalry brewing between Marc Marquez, now with Gresini Ducati, and Pecco Bagnaia, Ducati’s factory rider. While Bagnaia has cemented himself as the man to beat with back-to-back titles, Marquez’s move to Ducati machinery has reignited speculation about his return to the top.
Agostini, a name synonymous with dominance in motorcycle racing, believes Marquez’s hunger to prove himself is a crucial factor. Speaking in a recent interview, Agostini stated:
“Marquez has nothing to lose and everything to prove. He’s hungrier than Bagnaia, and that could make all the difference. When a rider is chasing something—whether it’s redemption or another championship—it can push them to levels others might not reach.”
Does Bagnaia Have the Edge on Track?
Bagnaia, however, is no pushover. The reigning champion has shown consistency, composure, and a deep understanding of the Desmosedici. His ability to handle pressure and deliver under challenging conditions has made him Ducati’s golden boy. But Agostini suggests that comfort can sometimes dull the edge of a competitor.
“Pecco is a great rider, but when you’ve already won, it’s different. You have to work harder to keep the same motivation. Marc, on the other hand, is still chasing that eighth title. That desire makes him very dangerous.”
Marquez’s Ducati Transition: A Game-Changer?
After a decade with Honda, Marquez’s switch to Ducati is one of the most significant moves in recent MotoGP history. With a more competitive bike at his disposal, many believe he has the tools to challenge for the title again.
“Marquez on a Ducati is a different beast,” Agostini added. “We’ve seen what he can do with a less competitive bike. Now, he has no excuses. If he stays fit and focused, he will be a real threat.”
A Season of Fireworks Ahead
With Marquez’s aggressive riding style and Bagnaia’s precision and control, the 2025 MotoGP season is shaping up to be one of the most thrilling in recent history. If Agostini’s words hold true, Marquez’s hunger might just tip the scales in his favor.
Will Bagnaia rise to the challenge and prove that consistency beats raw desire? Or will Marquez’s burning determination lead him back to the top? One thing is certain—MotoGP fans are in for an unforgettable season.
