Foo Fighters’ Taylor Hawkins and The Struts’ Luke Spiller secretly wrote a James Bond song – but lost out to Billie Eilish

The Struts’ lead vocalist, Luke Spiller, has revealed that he and late Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins secretly wrote a James Bond song for *No Time To Die*. In a recent interview, Spiller mentioned that although their song was submitted, they were ultimately beaten out by Billie Eilish, who performed the theme song that became a global hit. Spiller expressed his love for Bond theme songs and shared that they recorded the drums for their track at Hawkins’ home studio.

The *No Time To Die* theme, written by Billie Eilish and her brother Finneas, went on to win major accolades, including an Oscar, a Golden Globe, and a Grammy. The song also topped the charts in the UK. Despite missing out on the Bond track, Spiller praised Eilish’s song, calling it fantastic. However, he remains optimistic about the future, stating that he hopes to be considered for a future Bond movie theme.

Spiller added that he feels confident about his potential to create a Bond song and is waiting for the call to contribute to the next film. He hinted that he already has another Bond-worthy song up his sleeve, hoping that the team behind the next film will appreciate his music. The frontman also recalled his participation in the tribute concert for Taylor Hawkins in 2022, where he performed alongside Queen and Foo Fighters.

This isn’t the first time high-profile artists have been in contention for a Bond song. In 2015, Lana Del Rey revealed that her track ‘24’ from her *Honeymoon* album was initially intended for *Spectre*. Meanwhile, Radiohead also submitted a song for the same movie but lost out to Sam Smith’s *Writing’s On The Wall*, which became the first Bond theme to reach Number One in the UK.

Similarly, Ed Sheeran shared in 2022 that he had started working on a theme for *No Time To Die* but was replaced by Billie Eilish when the film’s director and script were changed. Despite the disappointment, Sheeran remains hopeful about contributing a Bond theme in the future. Likewise, Arctic Monkeys drummer Matt Helders said that the band’s frontman, Alex Turner, would also be interested in writing a Bond song.

Other renowned artists, including Jack White, Adele, and Paul McCartney, have left their mark on the James Bond franchise with their theme songs. The documentary will also reflect on other artists’ contributions to the famous film series and the continuous influence the Bond themes have on pop culture. Meanwhile, Spiller and The Struts recently wrapped up a successful tour supporting their latest album, *Pretty Vicious*.
