Dockers veterans face delayed pre-season after knee surgeries

Fremantle Dockers veterans Nat Fyfe and Michael Walters are facing delayed pre-season preparations after undergoing minor knee surgeries. Fyfe, a two-time Brownlow Medal winner, injured his right knee during a recent training session. He underwent arthroscopic surgery to remove loose bodies and stabilize the joint. The procedure is expected to sideline him temporarily, though the club is optimistic about his recovery.

Fyfe’s rehabilitation plan includes resuming strength work and cross-training within two weeks, provided his knee settles as anticipated. His surgery comes as the Dockers gear up for the 2025 AFL season, where Fyfe is expected to play a key role. Entering the final year of his contract, Fyfe is also nearing the significant milestone of 250 career games.

Meanwhile, Walters underwent an arthroscopic procedure during the Christmas break to address ongoing symptoms in his right knee. The 34-year-old has made good progress in his recovery and is expected to rejoin the football program in the coming weeks. Walters, like Fyfe, is entering the last year of his contract and is also closing in on the 250-game milestone.

Despite these setbacks, both players are expected to be fit in time for the Dockers’ season opener against Geelong on March 15. Walters is also eyeing a return for the AFL Indigenous All-Stars match on February 15 at Optus Stadium. Playing in this event has been a lifelong dream for Walters, and he remains determined to participate.

The delayed start to their pre-season has not dampened the club’s optimism about their contributions to the 2025 campaign. The Dockers are hopeful that Fyfe and Walters will bring their experience and leadership to the team as they aim to improve on last year’s performance. Both players are integral to Fremantle’s on-field strategy.

Fremantle fans are eagerly anticipating the return of the veteran duo, who have been pivotal figures for the club. Their recoveries will be closely monitored, with the Dockers remaining confident in their ability to make a strong impact as the season unfolds.
