Alex Márquez on Buriram J2 Test: “I Was Leading Until Marc Took Over—That’s Just How He Is”

The second day of the Buriram MotoGP test brought plenty of action, and Alex Márquez had a front-row seat to one of the most talked-about moments. The Gresini Ducati rider revealed how his older brother, Marc Márquez, made an aggressive move to take the lead—something he believes is simply part of Marc’s racing nature.

Sibling Rivalry on Track

Alex Márquez had been setting the pace during testing when Marc, now also riding a Ducati for Gresini, decided to overtake him. Speaking after the session, Alex humorously summed up the situation:

“I was leading until Marc decided he wanted to be in front. That’s just how he is.”

Marc’s competitive spirit is well known, and even in a test session, he wasn’t going to settle for second place. While testing is primarily for gathering data rather than racing outright, Marc’s instinct to push to the front was evident.

Ducati’s Strong Showing

The Buriram test highlighted Ducati’s dominance, with multiple riders setting impressive lap times. Alex Márquez has been adapting well to the Desmosedici, and despite Marc’s aggressive move, he remains optimistic about his progress.

“We worked on different setups today, and I’m feeling more comfortable with the bike. The competition within Ducati is strong, but that’s a good thing—it pushes us all to improve.”

Marc, on the other hand, continues to integrate himself into the Ducati camp after a decade with Honda. His transition to Gresini has been a major talking point in MotoGP, and his presence at the front of the test timesheets shows that he is quickly adapting.

Looking Ahead to the 2025 Season

With pre-season testing nearing its end, all eyes are on the first race of the season. Alex Márquez will be eager to prove himself among Ducati’s elite riders, while Marc aims to reestablish himself as a title contender on his new machine.

If the Buriram test is any indication, the Márquez brothers will be among the fiercest competitors in 2025. And if Alex’s words are anything to go by, fans can expect plenty more on-track battles between the two.
