Former Titans Pro Bowl RB Eddie George becomes Bowling Green head coach

Eddie George, the former Tennessee Titans Pro Bowl running back and 1995 Heisman Trophy winner, has been appointed as the head football coach at Bowling Green State University. Announced on March 9, 2025, George becomes the 21st head coach in the program’s history, succeeding Scot Loeffler, who departed after six seasons to join the Philadelphia Eagles as quarterbacks coach.

Coaching Tenure at Tennessee State University

George’s coaching career began at Tennessee State University (TSU) in 2021. Over four seasons, he transformed the Tigers into a competitive force, culminating in a 9-3 record in 2024, the program’s best since 2013. This achievement earned TSU a share of the Big South-Ohio Valley Conference championship and a berth in the NCAA Division I Football Championship. George’s efforts were recognized with the Big South-OVC Coach of the Year award and a runner-up finish for the Eddie Robinson National Coach of the Year. 

Return to Ohio

George’s appointment at Bowling Green marks a return to Ohio, where he previously starred as a running back for Ohio State University, winning the Heisman Trophy in 1995. Reflecting on his new role, George expressed enthusiasm about returning to the state and contributing to the university’s athletic success.

Beyond football, George has pursued various endeavors, including acting on Broadway, teaching as an adjunct professor at Ohio State and Vanderbilt University, and earning an MBA.
