Sherrone Moore’s rapid ascent in the coaching ranks has positioned him as a prominent figure in college football. After serving as Michigan’s offensive coordinator and offensive line coach, Moore was promoted to head coach in January 2024, following Jim Harbaugh’s departure to the NFL. In his inaugural season, Moore led the Wolverines to an 8-5 record, including notable victories over rivals Michigan State and Ohio State, as well as a ReliaQuest Bowl win against Alabama.
Moore’s coaching journey began at Louisville, where he spent five seasons, including two as the tight ends coach. He then joined Michigan in 2018 as the tight ends coach, later transitioning to offensive line coach and co-offensive coordinator. His leadership contributed to three consecutive Big Ten Championships (2021-2023) and a National Championship in 2023.
The 2024 season presented challenges, but Moore’s resilience was evident. Despite a mid-season slump, the Wolverines secured a historic 13-10 victory over Ohio State, marking their fourth consecutive win in the rivalry. The season culminated with an upset over No. 11 Alabama in the ReliaQuest Bowl, making Michigan the first program to defeat Alabama twice in the same calendar year.
Moore’s recruiting prowess further solidified his status, notably securing a commitment from Bryce Underwood, the nation’s top-ranked high school quarterback. This achievement underscores his ability to attract elite talent, a hallmark of top-tier coaches.
As Moore continues to build on his inaugural season, his trajectory suggests he could join the ranks of elite college football coaches. His strategic acumen, adaptability, and recruiting success position him well for sustained excellence at Michigan.
