Stephen Curry Breaks Silence on Kevin Durant’s Rejection of Warriors Trade: “I Respect His Decision”

Golden State Warriors superstar Stephen Curry has finally addressed Kevin Durant’s decision to reject a potential trade that would have reunited the two former teammates in the Bay Area. With speculation swirling about a possible Warriors-KD reunion, Durant ultimately declined the opportunity, choosing to stay put with the Phoenix Suns.

In a recent interview, Curry acknowledged the reports and shared his perspective on Durant’s choice. “I respect his decision. At the end of the day, KD has earned the right to make the best move for himself,” Curry said. “We had an incredible run together, and I’ll always appreciate what we accomplished, but things are different now.”

The two-time MVP’s comments come after reports surfaced that the Warriors explored the idea of bringing Durant back to the franchise where they won two NBA championships together in 2017 and 2018. While Curry and other Warriors stars were reportedly open to the move, Durant was said to be uninterested in returning to Golden State, preferring to continue his journey with Phoenix.

Would a Curry-Durant Reunion Have Worked?

Durant’s departure from Golden State in 2019 left a lasting impact, with some fans and analysts believing the Warriors could have continued their dominance if he had stayed. However, Curry emphasized that the team has evolved since then.

“We’re in a different place now,” Curry explained. “We’ve got young guys developing, we’ve had our ups and downs, but the goal remains the same—competing at the highest level. That’s my focus.”

While some Warriors fans may have hoped for a “Run It Back” scenario, Durant’s rejection signals that both sides have moved on. Despite the speculation, Curry remains locked in on leading Golden State’s current roster as they fight for another championship in the stacked Western Conference.

As for Durant, his decision to stay with the Suns shows his confidence in his current team’s potential. With Devin Booker and Bradley Beal by his side, Durant is determined to compete for a title on his own terms.

No Bad Blood Between Curry and Durant

While fans may speculate about any lingering tension between Curry and Durant, the two stars have consistently expressed mutual respect. “KD will always be one of the best players to ever play this game,” Curry said. “Nothing but love for him.”

With both legends taking different paths, the possibility of another Warriors-KD era seems unlikely. But if there’s one thing basketball fans know, it’s that the NBA is always full of surprises.
