Eddie Van Halen reportedly took an entire bottle of steroids before his passing in 2020 due to cancer complications, not intending self-harm but chasing a “superhuman” feeling. His brother, Alex Van Halen, recently shared in an interview with *Rolling Stone* that Eddie had received the medication to manage post-surgery swelling from a brain tumor procedure. Known for pushing limits, Eddie believed if “two’s good, twenty’s better,” reflecting a mindset they often joked about.
This week, Alex released “Unfinished,” the last song the brothers worked on, to honor Eddie’s memory, as part of his new memoir, *Brothers*. He described the song as his way of saying goodbye and shared that he looks forward to reuniting with Eddie someday. *Brothers*, now available through HarperCollins, dives deeper into their lives and bond.
In addition to this intimate tribute, Alex revealed that Eddie’s adventurous nature extended to the band’s vision. In fact, at one point, they even considered collaborating with Ozzy Osbourne, Chris Cornell, and Joe Satriani. The idea to bring Ozzy into the band was discussed with him and his manager, Sharon Osbourne, envisioning a project that would blend Van Halen’s rock style with Ozzy’s unique vocal approach.
