Roger Federer Gifts Custom Rolex Watches to John McEnroe and Bjorn Borg as They Bid Farewell to Laver Cup
In a heartfelt gesture, tennis legend Roger Federer presented custom Rolex GMT-Master II watches to John McEnroe and Bjorn Borg as the two captains bid farewell to their roles at the Laver Cup. The watches were specially designed in their respective team colors, with McEnroe receiving the “Pepsi” model and Borg being gifted the “Batman.” Each watch bore a personalized engraving commemorating their captaincy from 2017 to 2024.
Borg and McEnroe have been pivotal to the Laver Cup’s success, leading Team Europe and Team World since its inception in 2017. Their historic rivalry, spanning from 1978 to 1981, was reignited through their Laver Cup involvement. While Borg maintained a calm demeanor on court, McEnroe’s fiery temperament made for an intriguing dynamic between the two tennis greats.
The 2025 Laver Cup will move to San Francisco, where Yannick Noah will take over as Team Europe’s captain, and Andre Agassi will lead Team World.
In the 2024 edition, Team Europe narrowly triumphed over Team World with a 13-11 victory, thanks to a decisive win by Carlos Alcaraz over Taylor Fritz. This closely mirrored the 2019 Geneva edition, where Team Europe also secured victory by the same scoreline.
Federer’s thoughtful gifts marked the end of an era for the two legendary captains, as they pass the torch to a new generation of leaders for the Laver Cup.
