Report: NFL Executives Confirms and Put San Francisco 49ers Veteran Up Available for Trade
April 23, 2024
Amidst speculation about the San Francisco 49ers’ roster for the upcoming season, reports suggest that veteran wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk may be available for trade, despite initial denials from his agent.
While the 49ers themselves have shown little inclination to trade Aiyuk, rival executives believe that he could be acquired “for the right price,” according to Michael Silver.
One team reportedly interested in Aiyuk’s services is the Pittsburgh Steelers, who see him as a potential missing piece in their quest to become a dominant force in the AFC.
Since entering the NFL in 2020, Aiyuk has shown steady improvement each year. In 2023, he led the 49ers in receptions with 1,342 yards and seven touchdowns, earning him a spot on the All-Pro Second Team.
Aiyuk has emerged as a primary target for quarterback Brock Purdy and is known for his willingness to contribute as a blocker in the passing game.
As he enters the final year of his rookie contract, Aiyuk is reportedly seeking an extension that would place him among the highest-paid wide receivers in the league.
Trading Aiyuk would undoubtedly be a significant setback for the 49ers, potentially jeopardizing their chances at a championship. The team, which last won the Super Bowl in the 1994 season, faces mounting pressure from its loyal fanbase to bring home another Vince Lombardi Trophy to California.
